Exclusive Screening: ‘D.M. Bennett: The Truth Seeker’
Join CFI at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19 for an evening screening of “D.M. Bennett: The Truth Seeker,” about “blasphemous” 19th Century publisher D.M. Bennett (1818-1882), hosted by the high-definition video’s creators Roderick Bradford and Tom Flynn.
Bennett was the founder of the “blasphemous” periodical The Truth Seeker and the nation’s leading publisher of freethought literature during the Gilded Age. Christians called him “The Devil’s Own Advocate.” Bennett was arrested for mailing alleged “obscenity,” and his imprisonment was a flashpoint for freethinkers.
Roderick Bradford is a writer/video producer in Allentown, PA. He is the author of the biography D.M. Bennett: The Truth Seeker (2006) and a contributor to The New Encyclopedia of Unbelief (2007), both published by Prometheus Books. His articles have appeared in American Atheist , American History , Free Inquiry , Truth Seeker , and The Quest .
This screening of “D.M. Bennett: The Truth Seeker” is free and open to the public. The high-definition documentary will be shown on CFI's 12-foot jumbo screen with high-quality projection and sound.
