Dr. Dale McGowan will discuss the growing consensus among nonreligious parents on the best practices for raising great kids without religion. He will also discuss his book Parenting Beyond Belief: On Raising Ethical, Caring Kids Without Religion , the first comprehensive book addressing the unique challenges and opportunities of parenting without religion.  

Topics include:

How to encourage religious literacy without indoctrination
Understanding moral development
Dealing with death
Communicating with religious extended family

Dale McGowan left a 15-year career as a college professor to pursue writing full time and to create a joyful and fearless family atmosphere of questioning and wonder. He is editor and co-author of Parenting Beyond Belief: On Raising Ethical, Caring Kids without Religion (“a compelling read”—Newsweek), creator of the secular parenting blog “The Meming of Life” at www.ParentingBeyondBelief.com, columnist for Humanist Network News and editor of HumanistParenting.org.  His second nonreligious parenting book, Raising Freethinkers , is due for release in December 2008. Dale holds degrees in physical anthropology and music theory from UC Berkeley as well as a PhD from the University of Minnesota. He now lives in Atlanta with his wife Becca and their three ethical, caring children.
