Center for Inquiry Institute

Truth Forum

Inaugural Session

The Center for Inquiry Institute is hosting a roundtable discussion to explore the concept of truth and the disciplinary and interdisciplinary ways of knowing. Scientists, philosophers, artists, members of the legal profession, and religionists will discuss the ways in which methods, approaches, and expectations affect our understanding of how knowledge is conveyed and how truth is derived from the “products” and methods of their profession.

Panelists include:

Randall Dipert – C.S.   Peirce Professor of American Philosophy at the University at Buffalo and former professor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, with research interests including the history and philosophy of logic.

R. Joseph Hoffmann – Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Center for Inquiry and Chair of the Committee for the Scientific Examination of Religion, holding a M.Div. from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Christian origins from Oxford University.

Thomas W. Cusick – Professor of Mathematics, University at Buffalo, with areas of focus including cryptography, number theory, and Diophantine approximation.

John Shook – Vice President for Research and Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Inquiry, and research associate in philosophy at the University at Buffalo, where he received his Ph.D. in philosophy.
