Scott "Destroyer of Worlds" Pruitt tells the Christian Broadcasting Network that he's literally doing God's work:

The biblical world view with respect to these [environmental] issues is that we have a responsibility to manage and cultivate, harvest the natural resources that we've been blessed with to truly bless our fellow mankind.

Stephen Fry announces that he has been dealing with prostate cancer, which he refers to as "an aggressive little bugger," but surgery to remove the cancer seems to have been successful. Well, this poncey little heretic wishes him the best.

Yesterday I put out Cause & Effect issue number 100. Everyone at CFI had a big party and there was cake and Pin-the-Chi-on-the-Chopra and we all looked back on one hundred issues of newsletter excellence. And I got a BIG RAISE.

Carissa Wolf at the Post reports on how religious sects and their beliefs in faith healing have claimed the lives of hundreds of children, focusing on Idaho where the neglect of kids by the Followers of Christ have killed 183 kids since the law gave them a religious exemption:

Efforts to repeal faith-exemption laws across the nation pitted parental rights and religious freedom against children’s welfare. After decades of lobbying state lawmakers across the country, child advocates succeeded in overturning only a handful of exemptions in states including Hawaii, Massachusetts, Maryland, Oregon and Tennessee.

Vouchers! The White House wants to direct $1 billion in public funds into vouchers for private and religious schools! If course they do. Maybe they wouldn't seem to "acceptable" of instead of calling them vouchers we called them, like, "creationism coupons." Just a thought. You guys can run with that.

FEMA is not supposed to be used as churches' collection plate, so that's what we told the media in our statement last week about the GOP's legislative pander, which appears in a piece by Emma Green in The Atlantic. She says:

These [religious] groups are actively looking for ways to expand the reach of Trinity Lutheran, especially in spheres like education that are much more contentious than disaster relief. That’s the tactical brilliance of the new FEMA provision, though: Battles over the First Amendment don’t seem so compelling in the context of a torn-up church.

I don't know what came over us, but we were just Cuckoo for Press Releases yesterday. First we called out Jeff Sessions for installing little religious-right watchdogs with every U.S. Attorney's office, and then we called out the GOP Senators looking to exploit disaster relief efforts in order to pump taxpayer dollars to churches.

Bob Smietana says Tom Brady, who I understand is a famous sports athlete, has become a sort of religious figure in a Chopra-Paltrow kind of way. Boston journalist Bob Ryan says, "[Brady's] trying to sell us a bill of good. It’s cultlike. ... And it looks like that’s going to be his life after football."

Now this is the kind of thing we've really needed Consumer Reports to be doing: suggesting that you to steer the hell clear of naturopathic "doctors." Jeneen Interlandi writes:

If you’re considering naturopathic medicine, think twice. First, talk with your primary care doctor. If your goal is to improve your health through diet, exercise, or other lifestyle changes, your M.D. or D.O. may well be able to help just as well.
