God and Sex, Part 1
January 7, 2010
Last week, I mentioned the billboard in New Zealand that, tongue-in-cheek, expressed sympathy for Joseph because God was such "a hard act to follow."
Turns out some Christians may really think so. A friend has pointed out to me that earlier this year, Amy Grant was interviewed by Sally Quinn of The Washington Post, and she observed: "There are nights after amazing lovemaking [when], as I am closing my eyes on the pillow, [I say] ‘Great job, God.'"
Grant did not reveal whether anyone other than God was with her at these times.
Is this what Karen Armstrong means when she says God's importance is manifested through activity and not belief?
Most readers of this blog are unlikely to find themselves praying any time soon, but if you do, be forewarned: you may need a cigarette afterwards.
