April 30, 2012

Part Two of a look at all the ways the world might end. Or at least, many of them.

On April 18th, 2009, the Center for Inquiry - Transnational in Amherst, New York, presented a lecture by astronomer Phil Plait entitled “Death from the Skies: These Are the Ways the World Will End.”

Outer space is not as remote as many people think, and it’s only a matter of time before a cosmic disaster spells the end of the earth. But how concerned should we be about scenarios of cosmic catastrophes? And if they do pose a danger, can anything be done to stop them?

Phil Plait, Ph.D., is a renowned astronomer who has written articles for such magazines as Astronomy and Sky and Telescope. He has appeared on many national television news and documentary programs, and he hosts the award-winning website, BadAstronomy.com.
