Part One of a two-part session on neuroscience and deception from the 2011 conference of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry.
On Friday, October 28, 2011, the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry and the Center for Inquiry presented a session titled “Sleights of Mind” at their conference, CSIcon, at the Marriott Hotel in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
Ray Hyman, a professor of psychology emeritus and a member of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry’s Executive Council, moderated the panel. The speakers were Sandra Blakeslee, an author and science correspondent for The New York Times; Stephen Macknik, director of the Library of Behavioral Neurophysiology at Barrow Neurological Institute; Susana Martinez-Conde, director of the Laboratory of Visual Neuroscience at Barrow Neurological Institute; and James Randi, the internationally famous magician and escape artist who was a co-founder of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry and founder of the James Randi Educational Foundation.
