Episode 187 - Closing Session Including Houdini Seance, Part 1
August 19, 2013
Part One of the closing session of the 2011 conference of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry.
On Sunday, October 30, 2011, the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry and the Center for Inquiry presented a rousing discussion of magic in skepticism – along with an annual, whimsical attempt to contact the shade of escape artists and skeptic Harry Houdini, who died in 1926. All of this unfolded at their conference, CSIcon, at the Marriott Hotel in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
The panel was hosted by Joe Nickell, senior research fellow of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry and the world’s only full-time paranormal investigator. Participants included James “The Amazing” Randi, an internationally famous magician, escape artist, and investigator, founder of the James Randi Educational Foundation … Massimo Polidoro, a journalist and writer and the founder of the Italian skeptics’ society, CICAP … Ray Hyman, professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Oregon and a member of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry’s executive council ... and D. J. Grothe, president of the James Randi Educational Foundation.
