Episode 225 - Plenary Session on Atheism from Saturday, October 26, Part II

September 19, 2014

Part Two of CenterStage’s coverage of the Saturday, October 26, plenary session on the topic of atheism at the CFI Summit.

On October 24th through 27th, 2013, the Center for Inquiry presented the CFI Summit, an international congress in the Pacific Northwest. This event explored such questions as: To what extent do skeptics and humanists have a common mission? Should examination of religious beliefs remain largely off limits for skeptics? Should secular humanists be as critical of fringe science claims, including alternative medicine, as they are of religious beliefs? And are there public policy issues on which skeptics and humanists can productively collaborate?

That session included presentations by Greta Christina, the widely-read blogger, Free Inquiry magazine columnist, and author of the book   Why Are You Atheists So Angry?, and by Eddie Tabash, chair of the Center for Inquiry board of directors, an attorney focusing on civil liberties and church-state separation, and one of today’s leading debaters against the existence of God.

The session was opened by Jim Underdown, executive director of the Center for Inquiry – Los Angeles and chaired by Judith Walker, a member of the Center for Inquiry board of directors.

In this episode, Judith Walker will introduce the presentation by Eddie Tabash, titled “Taking Atheism to the General Public: The Time Is Now.” A brief question period will follow.
