Episode 89 - New Directions for Secular Humanism
August 22, 2011
Part I of the concluding session of a record-setting national conference presents a cross-section of the event’s speakers pondering the future of the controversial life stance of secular humanism.
On October 9, 2010, the Council for Secular Humanism presented its 30th anniversary conference at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. The conference’s concluding session featured speakers from other sessions of the conference including Jennifer Michael Hecht, Victor Stenger, Barry Kosmin, Shadia Drury, Ronald A. Lindsay, and many others. Also featured were two speakers who had not participated in other sessions of the conference: author-scientist Richard Carrier; and Sean Faircloth, executive director of the Secular Coalition of America. This episode features the speaker commentaries and the beginning of a most vigorous question period.
The session was chaired by Tom Flynn, executive director of the Council for Secular Humanism and editor of Free Inquiry magazine.
