Movie and Festivus Night in the Wicker Park neighborhood!
Reason is always in Season, so let's celebrate!
Starting at 7:00 pm: "The Century of the Self" is a prize-winning documentary by Brit BBC director Adam Curtis. Curtis tracks the creation of American consumerism through the advertising and PR firms that skillfully applied some of Freud's theories about hidden or unconscious desire. This film has won several awards, including being selected by Entertainment Weekly as one of the very best movies of 2005. The themes explored in this movie nicely follow up on the ideas that will be explored at our December 14th monthly meeting on the ideas of rationality and reason!
Following the movie: Our own meet, greet, eat and drink - with readings (bring your own "Festivus complaints" or other readings!). Food will be provided, but libations are cash bar.
Only a $5 donation requested for this smashing affair! Or more, if you can afford it. PLEASE RSVP to our office by December 24th so we can plan the food purchases - just leave us a message saying how many will be in your party! The office phone is 312-226-0420 - just leave a message.
Location is easy to reach by North Ave. bus, Blue Line train, or ample street parking. Hope to see you there!
