Community Lunch & Discussion: Center for Inquiry (CFI) - Who are we?
Quoted from our CFI Community of Daytona Beach web site:
CFI Communities are groups of rationalists, skeptics, and humanists which sponsor local events, activism, lectures and educational programs. The Communities draw upon volunteers and Center for Inquiry Friends and supporters who are enthusiastic about our agenda and wish to take part in our movement.
The Daytona Community offers an opportunity to put your principles into practice by joining other rationalists to work for positive change in society. In addition, the Daytona Community sponsors social events for freethinkers as well as intellectual programming, and assists with campus outreach.
CFI Communities provide an ethical alternative to religious and paranormal worldviews. In this time of rising religiosity, anti-intellectualism and political turmoil on ethical issues, it is critical that rationalists and freethinkers join together to protect civil liberties, defend reason, and work toward increasing scientific literacy.
Come join the discussion moderated by Mimi Cerniglia.
Mimi grew up and was educated in North Carolina. After earning a BA degree she married and taught school in North before her son was born. She moved to Florida and taught until she went back to North Carolina and earned her MA degree. Going from teaching to writing federal programs gave her time to write a book for helping secondary teachers work with students whose reading level was below grade level.
Several years later she met Bob Stevenson while attending a Free Thinkers meeting in Winter Park. Discussions with Bob led to Mimi being asked to be president of Humanists of NE Florida. Later, she formed three Free Thinkers groups: in Daytona Beach, and in Palm Coast and in Deland.
The public is invited. Our usual agenda is lunch from noon to 1:00 PM, presentation from 1:00-1:30 PM, and Q&A until 2:00 PM. You can order from the lunch menu.
There is never a charge for Friends of the Center, so join at the meeting for special rates and to support our community.
