Most people are born into one religion and hardly question thier childhood beliefs, but in this global age of communication, religious and nonreligious people can compare and criticize traditional views, with the help of religion scholars using modern techniques. CFI Indiana held a conference on September 11-13, 2009 featuring these three experts. Many people expressed an interest in learning more from each of them. Therefore, we have scheduled these intensive sessions to give those who want more in-depth knowledge on the subjects a chance to spend a day with each of these learned scholars.
Ibn Warraq is the pen name of the secularist author of Pakistani origin who founded the Institute for the Secularization of Islamic Society. Currently a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Inquiry focusing on Qur'anic criticism, Ibn Warraq has authored books including Why I Am Not a Muslim, Leaving Islam, What the Koran Really Says, The Origins of the Koran, and The Quest for the Historical Muhammad. His most recent, Defending the West: A Critique of Edward Said's Orientalism, was published by Prometheus Books in 2007.
Robert M. Price, PhD was Executive Director of the NY-NJ Metro CFI 2000-2001, and then moved to North Carolina to write and teach. His books include Beyond Born Again, The Reason-Driven Life, The Incredible Shrinking Son of Man, and Inerrant the Wind. He is known to some as the "Bible Geek."
John Shook, PhD is Vice President and Senior Research Fellow at CFI Transnational in Amherst, NY, and Research Associate in Philosophy at SUNY Buffalo.
