Center for Inquiry – Indiana
October 15, 2016
CFI sued the State of Indiana and the Indiana marriage law was declared unconstitutional in this verdict from the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in July of 2014. Currently, Indiana is the only state in which CFI certified Secular Celebrants are legal to solemnize marriages on their own.
Center for Inquiry – Michigan
November 12, 2016 - POSTPONED
Grand Rapids, MI
3777 44th Street, SE
Grand Rapids, MI 49512
CFI–Michigan is currently in the process of challenging the discriminatory nature of the Michigan Marriage Statute MCL 551.7, which only allows “Ordained Ministers of the Gospel” and a very limited set of Civic Officials to solemnize marriages. CFI-Michigan is seeking to persuade the State of Michigan to amend the statute to permit secular celebrants to solemnize weddings. If such a legislative solution proves unattainable, CFI is prepared to bring a law suit to achieve that goal.
Workshop Fee: $75.00 per person (does not include meals)
