Committees

Committee members are selected by invitation, but interested parties are encouraged to indicate their willingness to serve. If interested in one of these positions, contact Jeanette at (954) 345-1181.

Chairwoman of the Executive Committee

This position is appointed by cfi Transnational/Amherst. Signs checks. Reviews bank statements. Is liaison to cfi Transnational. Oversees Assistant, Program, and Finance committees.

Assistant1

This person must be ready to take over the duties of the Chairwoman in the event of her absence or incapacitation. He or she would also be assigned ad hoc tasks as the need arose, would work on strategic plans, and provide training to new board members as needed.

Finance1

Deposit all receipts: admissions, donations, membership, merchandise sales, and any other income. Maintain bookkeeping records (software will be provided) from deposits and expense receipts provided by Chairwoman.

Program1

Plan 1st Friday dinners, social events, outdoor activities, picnics, discussion groups, book club. Select and arrange venues. (More detail to be added.)

Facilities1

Find a permanent home for our Community. Maintain facilities. (future)

Public Relations Director1

Responsible for oversight of all public relations sub-committees. Required to  conceive, develop, and implement marketing programs for program, membership, fundraising and other activities of the Community.

Newsletter Editor2

Write monthly newsletter: features, event reviews, other Communities’ activities, upcoming calendar items. Provide webmaster with content.

Print Relations2

Responsible for developing and maintaining print media contacts. Send press releases, arrange interviews, and provide cfi background, member profiles, and position papers. Negotiate and place advertising.

Broadcast Relations2

Responsible for developing and maintaining radio and TV contacts. Suggest persons for broadcast interviews and debates. Negotiate and place advertising.

Internet Relations2

Responsible for placement, maintenance, and monitoring web contacts: forums, community sites (Craig’s List, My Space, usenet, link exchanges).

Membership2

Collect contact information at events, greet visitors, promote and advise on membership activities. Would develop elevator pitch (10 second suggested responses to “What is cfi?”, “What do you do?”, “Are you an atheist?”). Enumerate and expand upon the benefits of being a Friend (perks).

Communications2

Provide written, phone, fax, and email communications for events, research, and other projects as requested by the Chairwoman or the Public Relations director.

Marketing2

Develop invitations, pamphlets, flyers, brochures, event announcements, and handouts. Coordinate magazine placement, bulletin board notices, and other gorilla marketing programs.

Fundraising2

Find sponsors to underwrite events and projects. Manage 50/50 drawings. Solicit items and services for auctions, door prizes, and awards.

Merchandising2

Responsible for ordering, inventory, and fulfillment of books, shirts, merchandise, business cards, name tags, and the distribution of Prometheus catalogues and order forms.

Technology Director1

Manage, train, and advise technical support staff.

Graphics Designer3

Design graphics for pamphlets, flyers, brochures, event announcements, etc. Prepare camera-ready copy and digital images.

A/V Technician3

Maintain our equipment, rent or borrow additionalequipment, perform event set up, audio and video recording for archive, for podcasts, and for use in media advertising.

Webmaster3

Learn new site-management tools. Maintain and improve centerforinquiry.net/fortlauderdale pages. Post calendar events and other content. Work with Amherst on new features, i.e. airing podcasts, audio messages, Community commercials, publish splash announcements, and create email accounts for all cfi Friends.

Archivist3

Maintain membership and Community resource information:

  1. cfi International and Community leaders

  2. local cfi members

  3. community participants (have attended a Community event or requested information)

  4. resource persons (potential speakers, entertainers, caterers and sponsors)

  5. contacts in synergistic organizations (Broward Atheists, ACLU, Planned Parenthood, Americans United, James Randi Educational Foundation, …)

  6. Venues: description, contacts, rates, notes on past experiences

  • As appropriate, keep contact information (name/s, email, address, phone numbers: home, work, cell, fax, and other), useful skills or helpful contacts, membership status, Friends renewal date, cfi subscriptions,…

  • Resolve bounced email and returned mail addresses.

Procurement3

Shop for needed supplies and capital goods as directed my Chairwoman. Monitor FreeCycle.org, FreeSharing.org, SharingIsGiving.org, and other Internet resources (Amazon.com, Overstock.com, etc.). Supply items may be purchased at Sam’s Club, BJ’s, and Restaurant Depot. (Membership cards are available.) Other sources may include pawn shops, odd lot stores (Big Lots, Bealls, and retail close out sales).

Historian3

Record events in digital pictures and a written summary including event name, date, description, guest speakers, venue, attendance, income and expense, cosponsors, comments (what went well; what went wrong).

Librarian3

To manage the member based library of books, video tapes and CDs, and other material that members are willing to lend to other CFI Friends. (Program is in development.)

Campus Outreach1

Help establish on campus cfi groups. Coordinate campus and Community relations, support, and co-sponsored events. (More detail to be added.)

SOS1

Secular Organizations for Sobriety (More detail to be added.)

Secular Celebrant1

Perform non-religious ceremonies for weddings, domestic partnerships, renewal of vows, baby debuts (naming, welcoming), funerals, or any other solemn occasion for which a celebrant is desired.
