Grew up on small farm in MO. Went away for 50 years spending 31 of that as a pilot for a major airline. Also owned working ranch in TX during most of this time. Got interested in religion when I discovered most of my peer group had been carrying their Christian bibles to church for 50 years and had no idea what was actually in the thing. So, my curiosity piqued, I began to look into this strange phenomena and discovered there are several reasons as to why people surrender their power of logic and reason to a church leader. The answers I found were disappointing since for the most part they were centered around fear, laziness, ignorance and lack of curiosity. In addition I have learned that the easiest argument to make is when the audience has little knowledge of the subject and the speaker has a lot of time. If the speaker is charismatic (think of Billy Graham) then it’s a slam dunk. Discovered Point of Inquiry about 18 months ago and been hooked ever since. |
