Topic Organization Proposal

I noticed that sometimes each of us can get misinterpreted by position due to various ways we communicate. Even if a position may be understood by some person, a different person can easily read into the same thing in a completely different way because of differences of what we expect that how others express things should be similar to our own.

I propose that for major discussion subjects, like “gun control”, for instance, that we have sub-headings to it with a set of differentiated posts that:
   - have one that uniquely is used NOT to argue position, but just to state one’s preferential contemporary view (because sometimes we change and may update this). This would help each other to understand how the arguments in the discussion or debating posts of individuals be interpreted in that light. It can be voluntary to state one’s position there but would allow those who want to assure the clarity of their position in context to other posts.
   - the set of other posts within the argument’s category below the above “Position” statements. That is, the actual arguments.

Example: Politics and Social Issues
                             Gun Control Arguments
Member Contemporary Issue Positions for Argument Clarification (Voluntary)
                                   Arguments
                                            [Particular Post Arguments]

Suggesting a summary of arguments

I am finding it hard to jump in to some of the conversations without too much extensive reading. I read the first page or so of a zillion page argument and respond from the heading but no one already in the end of the conversation is interested in engaging because they’ve moved on and are talking about something else. May I suggest having some kind of outline summaries to help us catch up on major arguments that you may have gone over and over too much? It might also help new readers get involved because they won’t feel intimidated to step in if they can figure some things out quickly on there own at first. If it is about doing the work to summarize, perhaps some of us may like to volunteer to do it here and there too.

thanx,

Is there a forum post manual?

I’ve been struggling hard to figure out how to take an uploaded attachment and present it into a post. I had a picture from my computer that I uploaded to as an attachment because the copy/paste does not work for <img> on your home computer. It’s made for URL addresses. I even went to the site that makes this program (Expression Engine) but there was no manual for the user and nothing, ironically, so much as a mention of a post anywhere! Many forums have these programs but none tell you how to use them. Is this supposed to be common knowledge in the Universe? Can you help me, and others who may have the same question? Thanks.

I said

Well, I can’t even enter the comment I tried to post HERE as it is treated as spam, and no, it’s not spam.

How can I send somebody the text to find out why it’s treated automatically as spam, pray tell?

I am annoyed.

I’d say that in terms of electronics, it’s more like 97/3. Amplifiers for reasonable loads are cooked, fried, and finished. Loudspeakers are the one place that it’s maybe 70/30 or so. But the problem with loudspeakers is that they are all trying to do something they can’t, which is mimic the soundfield of the INTENDED playback with whatever happens in your listening space, and trying to do so with enormously insufficient information.

At (url removde) you will find a powerpoint deck titled “Soundfields vs. Human Hearing” that goes into more depth on this.

Would it be possible to create a new Forum dedicated to the Environment and the Natural world?

As these topics become more and more important in today’s world, it would be nice to have a dedicated Forum for these issues.

Does CFI have an official policy about people copying-and-pasting portions of threads to their personal websites? I was browsing Rev GL King’s site and noticed he had posted part of a discussion we had in the WILLpower thread. If this is not against forum policy I will send him a PM and let him know I consider it unethical.
