Please let us know about any glitches you find in the software. I’ve already located a few here and there. E.g., some older posts disappear unless you push the “edit” button, then you can read the “lost” text. Also it appears that some PMs (at least the sent ones?) may not have survived the conversion.
Also URLs that refer to other Forum threads or posts may be broken.
NB.
(I’m not on the development team, but will try to convey any info about serious bugs or problems to those who actually get this thing running!)
As those with a technical background can attest to, moving a forum’s database from one software package to another without the aid of a fully developed conversion script can be a headache. It took about 8 hours total but we came through in pretty good shape.
Still, there are no doubt some bugs to be ironed out and not everything appears to have made it.
Don’t worry about any lost PM’s, the old database is intact so we really haven’t lost anything. I will continue working on this over the weekend so please alert me to any problems you encounter.
Seems like ya’ll did a pretty good job, no problems so far, other than that there are new posts (to me) but my user shows no new posts I suspect that is a flaw in migrating users to the new software, and will change after the first run.
Oh..and Avatars did not migrate it seems (or at least mine didn’t)…
But thanks, there is a great and generous guy named Paul Hoff over at Jref who does animated gifs for fun, he seems to delight in doing these for people.
Just wanted to offer congratulations to Thomas and the other folks involved in the transition of the forum and the CFI website. Remarkably smooth and orderly! Good Job!
So far, I am not getting email notices of new posts to threads. Before I complain too much though, I want to wait and see if it is slow, no new posts in those threads, or if there really is a glitch in the email notice for new posts. It could just be that no one has posted in those threads yet or it is starting out very slow.

I think there is a box you have to click to get email notifications of new posts in threads. You see the box when you post a reply to a thread, and I think it’s also in your email preferences under your control panel. Personally I don’t want emails, so I turned them off.
(However I did get one such email before turning them off, so I think it works).
Well the first thing I notice about this new format is that it is much, MUCH harder to tell iwhich threads have new postings. The icons look nearly identical. In the old format, they were at least different colors.

I do think you have a point—the threads with new postings are harder to recognize. But the icons at the far left are yellow if there are new posts. (Problem is that the color yellow is rather pale and hard to distinguish from the background ... and it’s lost if the icon is a yellow “sticky” icon anyhow).
