I hesitate to ask what Love is, but maybe it’s not such a bad idea, at least to see if we’re discussing (are we?) the same thing.
For me, Love is the emotion that mirrors the welfare of the loved one. When my loved one is sad, that saddens me. When my loved one is happy, that makes me happy. To me, that is Love.
I see two components to Love: passion and harmony. The popular conception of Love focuses on passion, as in “oh baby, I looooooove you!” This focus leads to the tragic phenomenon of domestic violence, or more flippantly as “you always hurt the one you love.” Tragically, it’s not uncommon. That’s because there’s often not enough focus on the harmony part, and I mean harmony with the other, not with the feelings within.
Some people say the opposite of Love is hate. Others say it is indifference. I say it depends on whether the focus is on harmony or passion. In the plane of passion, the opposite of Love is indiffernce. In the plane of harmony, the opposite of Love is hate. So I think I’ve identified the right elements.
Another way to see Love is as an experience. Seen that way, Love’s opposite is fear.
while I am happy if your in love, I am a naysayer of love heals all type speak.
yes call me jaded, I am. but love is not here for us all. If you look at the world in its current state of affairs love is far from a dommenit forum of world interaction. I think any news sorse would support that.
ps on my linux boot do not yet have a good spell check.
BAH humbug
just kidding. yeah I’ll give you that, love does come in many forums. And I guess one could argue that having a healthy respect for all humanity is a forum of love. hmm on that note are we all the love junkies attempting not only to help illuminate the world of reason and science but also to love in all senses of the word my honestly? I like that better, I take back what I said earlier. Love on everyone.
Well something like that, Misfit. Yes, I would say there is a love for humanity too, not just offspring, family, friends, lover, etc IMO, if it is a form of love to see someone needing help and helping them, whether it is a life and death situation or just donating food or something to an organization that helps the poor. That is love for humanity, IMO. There is even love of nature, but it’s not quite the same as a love for humanity.
but without a love of nature there would never be a love of humanity. That was probably your point!
Ok I have to sleep or I’ll go off about feds and local rule.
Can one love, and then not possess hatred? Can they exist without each other? Is it possible to love everything? (which would have to even include loving to hate)
