Interesting comment, I’ll have to remember that one for my next real life debate.

[quote author="Anonymous"]To correct the Guest’s post,

TOP TEN SIGNS THAT YOU ARE AN UNQUESTIONING CHRISTIAN…

An “Unquestioning Christian” is an oxymoron - and therefore does not concern me - as shown by the following Biblical verse:

Acts 17:11
“Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.”

Christians are supposed to question their beliefs and that which they are taught, which therefore nullifies your former post. I suggest that you don’t assume what Christians believe and then slam that assumption because clearly you have little idea as shown above.

Is your conclusion logical? The Bereans were questioning what Paul was saying, not the validity of their ‘Holy Scriptures’ and religion itself. Christians are supposed to have faith and not doubt, like in James 1:5-8. Perhaps there are denominations that encourage questioning one’s belief, but that idea is quite unbiblical.

The arguments for God in the Bible are very shallow. Like in Hebrews where it says that every house has a builder but the one who built all things is God—this is a very shallow argument for God’s existence. Or in Job 12:7-10 where we are told to ask the earth/fish/animals and they will tell us that God made them—where is the questioning? Questioning fish? Or Romans 1:19-20—we allegedly see God’s power through the things he has made. These arguments no longer carry any weight. They only carried weight when we were ignorant of natural phenomena.

While I find the judgmental nature of some of the atheists on the board disappointing, I have to agree that Christianity has many mindless followers since the Bible encourages such.

“ Why are christians stupid?”

Is that a stupid question or what?  grin

Why do you think that having a belief makes them stupid?  Mis informed perhaps, badly trainned, maybe.

If a “stupid” christian suddenly stops believing, do they suddenly get “smart”???

Hmmmm????  grin

Why are Christians Stupid?

They are not -

anyone who thinks that the people who are designing and then filing the new judicial attacks on the principle of separation of church and state are stupid is really going to be surprised when he or she is sitting in a country run according to the laws of the “bible” as understood by these “stupid Christians”.

Look at this from the LA Times this morning> “Christians Sue for the Right to Be Intolerant”

Let’s stop the name calling and get on with trying to educate the 20 million or so that answer the question “Religious Affiliation?” with “None”

Sticky I define as controversial. wether it has been arguing the first topic or something else, it has remained controversial.  If they weren’t a christian organization fighting to extend special christian rights i would join them against the homosexuals.

We spend a lot of time and energy debating issues that are inconsequential with each other!

The question was asked “Why are Christians Stupid?” It has been put to bed. The answer is clearly no; misguided, irrational, home schooled, maybe but not stupid.

Lets get this one off the board. It should never have been there in the first place.

Where exactly does your bigotry against homosexuals come from? So far as I can tell, the only broad source of such prejudice is old-time religion of some form or another. Indeed, I have any number of Christian friends who are actually totally comfortable with homosexuality and gay marriage. It’s ironic that there are Christians less bigoted than you on this topic!

Remember freethought is about having an oppinion and respecting other people’s oppinions.

Well, your (often unprovoked) attacks on homosexuality do not display much “respect”. Instead they display prejudice.

Free thinking isn’t just about “having an opinion”. Everyone has opinions, even fundamentalists!

Free thinking is about inquiry into dogma and prejudice, and about the commitment to use reason and the scientific method to come to better-formed opinions.

So: where do your anti-homosexual opinions come from? Earlier you had written that gay people couldn’t have children and that was somehow bad. I (and others) responded that gay people could have children, and that having children wasn’t such an incredible thing anyway ... many heterosexual couples decide not to have children. I believe Tom Flynn of Free Inquiry magazine has decided not to have children.
