There are some pretty nice designs at Carl Zimmer’s Science Tattoo Emporium. And the ideas behind some of them are quite cerebral. Of course, Trilobites, Darwin, and DNA (double helix) show up a few times.

Click the link for an explanation--> God, The Void, and A Tattoo:
Darwin, “A Venerable Orang-Outang”:
Paiute Language: “This is a tattoo of the word for Body, Spirit, Person.People, and Life in Owens Valley Paiute, written in International Phonetic Alphabet.”
Galapagos:
Trilobites and the Fossil Record:
The Mark of the Iceman: “Mike writes: ‘Otzi was discovered on a glacier in the Austrian-Italian alps by a couple of hikers - his body was well-preserved along with many of his possessions. On his skin there were something like 50 tattoos, I got 10 of the lines on my back in the same place he had his.’” Cool!
