Funny, I just finished watching that particular series a couple of weeks ago.  Great minds sure do think alike. 

The series is incredible.  Attenborough is something else, and those films have incredible photography too.

My son bought the DVD’s and we watched it while he was home for Thanksgiving.  I thought it was excellent, especially when viewed in HD.

Blue Planet is marvelous. Haven’t yet seen Planet Earth, though it’s definitely on my short-list.

The one I was talking about was a 13-part series, spanning the entire world and giving an overview of the entrie history of “Life on Earth”.  I’m pretty sure it’s distinct from “Planet Earth”.  Yes, I just got up and checked—my library has both series.

There are several Attenborough series’ that span the whole planet in some way.  There is BBC Atlas (available on six DVDs) and Living Planet (available on four DVDs) which I have not seen yet.  I have them on reserve and look forward to seeing them.  Blue Planet (two DVDs) deals with ocean life around the globe and Planet Earth: The Complete Collection (six DVDs) is the one that has been supposedly done up a bit for airing on the Discovery Channel.  I imagine that the Discovery Channel version will be good too.  I have see these last two and they are both great (although I haven’t seen the Discovery Channel version).

I just found Life on Earth HERE.  It is a different series altogether.  I guess netflix doesn’t carry it.  Im gonna have to search around for it.

FYI- The new American version of Planet Earth has been airing on Sundays on the Discovery Channel.  I caught part of it yesterday.  The narration lacks Attenborough’s enthusiasm, but it does have stunning visuals.  Check it out HERE

I just finished watching “David Attenborough: Wildlife Specials.” It’s a 2008 new release available on two DVDs.  It was so gorgeous that I had to pass it on.

The Truman Show is a great anti-religious allegory although subtle (Truman breaking out of a false belief [despite its comforts] to face reality).

Contact with Jody Foster SHOULD have been good but was watered-down to please a religious audience.
