What? My Science! How far can claiming religious persecution get you?

Well I’m speechless. That is an awful decision.

Actually having been speechless I wonder if it would be a good idea for secular groups to make a fund raising effort to give the poor hairdresser £4,000. even better if secular Muslims would join in!

I know I would contribute if I believed it would help, rather than make the situation worse and I’m sure there would easily be enough people of like mind to come up with the money.

Good thinking, Stephen. I had the very same thought, and was about to launch an appeal on the Freethinker website when Sarah spoke to me and said that a well-wisher had come forward with the money. She was enormously touched by the many messages of support she has received over this bizarre episode, but said that an appeal for money would not be necessary. Maybe we should start a fund to buy the awful Bushra Noah a one-way ticket out of the UK.

I am a firm believer that people should not be discriminated against on the basis of religion, non-religion, color, gender, or sexual orientation. But this is really pushing it.

I’m sure the lady was adept at cutting hair, if she had a barber’s or stylist’s license. But customers would not see it that way. When I walk into a new salon, I scope out the stylists and look for a woman with wild curls like my own. If I like what she’s done with her own curls, I make an appointment with her specifically.

I suppose it looks like I’m some crazy lady walking into a brothel - pointing and saying “I want that one!” - but it takes one with curly hair to know one with curly hair. So if I don’t feel I can trust someone with pin-straight hair to understand how to cut mine, I certainly wouldn’t feel comfortable with someone with no hair showing at all, unless I had seen her work tested on other people.

I go into the barber shop and look for the guy with the worst hair cut. He cuts everyone else’s hair - the second best guy cuts his.
