Part one of a three-part presentation featuring Jennifer Michael Hecht, author of award-winning books of philosophy, history, and poetry; Ronald A. Lindsay, President and CEO of the Council for Secular Humanism and the Center for Inquiry; Mark Johnson, author and professor of philosophy at the University of Oregon; and Canadian humanist activist Christopher DiCarlo. The event is chaired by John Shook, director of education and senior research fellow at the Center for Inquiry.

On October 9, 2010, the Council for Secular Humanism presented its 30th anniversary conference at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. This episode showcases the presentations by Jennifer Michael Hecht and Ronald A. Lindsay.
