All that says is that she is probably not a Fundamentalist Muslim and probably doesn’t read her book any more than Xians do theirs.

No. What it says is that Islam is none of those things you have mentioned above. Islam is one thing and Muslim fundamentalists are another.

Oh well then the same could be said of Xianity.  Give me a break.

Well then, why don’t you step up to the plate and defend all the religions mentioned here and not just Islam?  I find it really ridiculous no one says a word until someone mentions Islam and then it’s defend it, without saying a word about other religions.  Although, I truly feel that Islam, including its book, is the worst of all of them.

It’s not the religion you picked, Mriana. It’s how you define it that I disagree with. If you said that Christianity was more boorish, oppressive, dehumanizing, and violent than any other religion I would have responded exactly the same.

Well IMO Islam is.  BTW, George, the original post was asking for personal opinions- the person asked which religion you’d get rid of and why.  Thus, it is a matter of personal opinion and it doesn’t matter if the person thinks the religious of their choice is all that I stated and others disagree.  If it were the case, then I could argue with you about your opinion concerning Buddhism, even the new one.  However, I did not wish to debate it, since that isn’t exactly what the thread is about.

Buddhism. The new-agy one. No good reason, it just irks the hell out of me.

George, I must humbly say that you are out of your mind! Buddhism is the only one that doesn’t have a history of genocidal bloodshed. Next time try to pick a more “deathy deathy” religion. There’s a whole bunch out there.

I agree. Eradicate Islamic belief. I don’t care if some of them are not violent. They’re the most GROUP Fanatical religion in existence.

If you could push a button and make just one current religion vanish, which one would it be and why?

That Abrahamic one with all its offshoots.

Too much focus on the self {as one imagines god seeing that self} and fantasies about a promised heaven for the worthy.
Not enough focus on our planet/biosphere nor the place and time we inhabit.

Most definitely and I agree with you concerning Buddhism, obviously.  It is one of the least violent religions, next Jainism, which I believe is the least violent religion.

OK Occam I agree with citiizen challenge AND you and choose to eliminate the Abrahamic meta-religion (Judaism, Christianity,Islam) if the rules let me get away with it (if you didn’t have Judaism, how exactly can you have Christianity and Islam—)

Otherwise Islam for the reasons previously explained by Mriana et al.

Here’s the scary part of it all. What would all those nutty fanatical Muslims do with all their time if the no longer have their religion to keep them busy hours on end?

I never said I didn’t like it because the new-age buddhists were violent. I said it irked me because I find it silly.

I am going to adhere to the request in the original premise and concentrate on a newer religion, not one of the “root” religions.

In this case, I choose to abolish the Christian Identity movement, which is the religious denomination of white supremacists. I abhor racism and would be happy to at least have an aspect of it conquered.

I’m not sure I could make an easy choice on this one. As poisonous as the Abrahamic religions (Judiasm, Christianity and Islam( have been, one has to wonder at what options there are which are worse.

Scientology anybody????

Scientology for sure…but then I generally think cults are hideous.
