America doesn’t exactly have a monopoly on this kind of crap. Japan, the UK, France, Sweden, and practically every other country without a repressive, state-run media have their fare share of media circuses. Hell, even the ones with repressive, state-run medias probably have them. We humans love drama. Especially when it involves someone else.

That’s true, but what I want to know is what news feed you and DM use that (wisely) ignored this story.
I thought she did it, but what I think doesn’t matter. Proof beyond a “Reasonable Doubt” is a high standard,
the prosecution didn’t meet it, she walks! The system works?
I’m not so sure it’s so much a question of whether or not the system works as it is the prosecution not being able to prove their case to the point where reasonable doubt was eliminated.
Seems to me that they forgot that when you can’t establish cause of death, you can’t in turn establish beyond any question that it was murder. When there is no DNA evidence which links the defendant with the victim, you can’t establish beyond any question that one had anything to do with the other’s death.
My gut feeling is that Mommy Dearest did the foul deed, but the problem is that in a criminal proceeding, especially a capital proceeding where the electric chair or “The Needle” is being offered up as the penalty, that simply isn’t good enough. It might have been murder and probably was, but in the event that it wasn’t and the only thing that the accused is guilty of is grotesque stupidity above and beyond the call of grotesque and irrational stupidity, after the execution is too late to say “Oops, sorry about that.”
