I’m not sure how that would work Lois. Have I ever linked the Jonathan Haidt interview Bill Moyers? It should be on the Moyers website.

He is a liberal, but his research into just what that means has changed his thinking. He found that all of us agree that compassion is good. We all have a sense of fairness. Conservatives, generally also value things like tradition, the tribe. Liberals are averse to that. I don’t think we’re going to talk them out of having that value, so they question is, what is the value of the tribe? Well, stability, passing on values (like compassion), providing for the common defense, stuff liberals actually value, but don’t always have good answers for how to implement.

We’re trying. The point is nobody’s going to change and people join organizations that have a point of view they agree with. We can’t change that on either the liberal or conservative side.

Like the marijuana movement is a people’s movement. Rich, poor, right and left. Point being people will organize regardless of news, church, government and political party if the subject is strong enough to the tribe.

I don’t believe in the strict Liberal/Conservative “all in one” labels. Where I stand depends on the issue and not blind obedience to a stereotype. Labels like these imo are ways to divide the populace so they can be better manipulated. People should not be tricked into being myopic with their views.

True, Blue_Sky, but most of us tend to agree with the views of one or the other well above 50%, so for ease of discussion we tend to connect (not identify) with that one that describes our views more often.

A few years ago I was given a Libertarian tract listing about forty of their views.  I went through and wrote my response to each.  As I recall, there was only one of the forty with which I agreed.  smile

Liberals vs conservatives
Republicans vs Democrats
Democracies vs Socialism
Ever notice how the platforms they push changes over time.

Am I a liberal conservative or a conservative liberal? Any right wing conservative christian tea party patriot would call me a flaming liberal or a communist. Hell. you can be a moderate in the bible belt and you would be considered a flaming liberal. By the way, I identify very closely with the liberal agenda, but not on every issue. I will keep it an issue driven process and not a blind following.

Everybody thinks that. Even those who identify with the conservative agenda.  Nobody wants to look like sheep to the slaughter even if they do follow blindly. We all like to keep up the fiction of independent thought.
