Perhaps he meant that a craving for meat is a fundamental expression of the predatory side in humans. It would explain aggression, boorishness, less social behaviors except with “buddies” who are part of the “pack”.

I wonder if anyone ever has made a study of behavior differences in meat eaters and vegetarians. In nature, the differences are clear,. i.e. aggressive hunting packs vs docile grazing herds.

Aren’t rhinos horribly territorial and violent?

And don’t a lot of herbivores have vicious fights over mating partners and territories?

True, but one might find that the environment itself may have an impact. Hippos have a very restricted territory which needs defending, rhinos have very poor eyesight and will react aggressively to any perceived threat. Tens of thousands of bees can live peacefully in a hive, but will defend that hive to the death from an invader. Thus their aggression is more defensive than active.
I am sure one can find a range of cominations, but the fact remains that a predator has a different set of objectives and behaviors than a herd animal.
