Check it out. Amazing photo of Saturn, with the Sun providing the backlight. How cool is that?

It’s a beautiful picture but I think it came out several years ago and is being remembered now because of APOD. (I downloaded it for my monitor’s background photo awhile back cheese ).

Sorry about posting old news, Doug. But it was news to me!

Thanks for the link to APOD. Very cool site.

No worries, it’s still a great photo! But when I saw it floating around the web today I was wondering where it came from, since I don’t think there’s any NASA probe taking photos like that of Saturn right now. I’m always on the lookout for cool new Saturn photos ...

Saw this is Yahoo News, as if this were current news. Sometimes how those organizations choose stories eludes me. IMHO, this should have been news back in 2006 when it was taken. Cassini rocks.

It may be a few years old, but it is a stunning photo. This is the cover photo on the astronomy textbook we used in community college last year. I have it in my folder of screen saver images. In the full size version you can spot Earth just above Saturn’s bright ring at about the 10 o’clock position.

Photo of Earth, and Saturn too

I think its worth repeating that although Saturn made that spectacular photo famous, the Earth is what is really behind that photo (Look at the arrow up and to the left).

Gee, does that mean we’re just a moon of Saturn?  [Sorry, couldn’t help myself. smile  ]
