I just got back yesterday from a NASA Tweetup at KSC (GRAIL is now on its way to the moon!), and Neil Tyson was there. He is awesome—make sure you meet him if you get the chance. One of the other attendees asked him to record a statement for their students back home, and it’s pretty sweet, so I wanted to share it. It’s up on YouTube:

His philosophy was a mixture of three famous schools—the Cynics, the Stoics and the Epicureans—and summed up all three of them in his famous phrase, ‘You can’t trust any bugger further than you can throw him, and there’s nothing you can do about it, so let’s have a drink.’ - Terry Pratchett

I saw him speak last year at the Univ at Buffalo. Very dynamic and entertaining. Great for science.

Did you all know he’s doing a new Cosmos series? I found out awhile ago on Twitter but didn’t know the time frame; he told us it’s supposed to air in 18 months (Feb. 2013) - they start filming this fall.

Yep, we had that discussion on a thread a few weeks back - it’s great news.
