I was wondering why Chopra did that, and I think he must have calculated that he’s probably more popular among the woo-woo liberals than the Christian conservatives. Or maybe he realized that sounding like an idiot on the O’Reilly’s show wasn’t the smartest move right before his publication of War of the Worldviews, co-written with Leonard Mlodinow.
Chopra is a woo woo guru! Dawkins has taken him down several times on youtube so I don’t really trust much of what he says, or demonstrates. Several of my friends got heavy into TM back in the early 70’s and would even excuse themselves in the middle of a conversation to go “meditate”. I hate to sound like a naysayer but when I need to relax I take a nap. Fortunately I can nap anywhere. Is it natural, or learned? Alcohol just puts me to sleep so I’m a light drinker. My addiction is chocolate and I’m really a chocoholic.
Same here, Jack. Meditation sounds woo-wooish to me and I need my chocolate. But I can drink. Not as much as I used to, but as long as I have a good meal and the right company, I can finish a bottle of wine and feel just fine.
On a somewhat related note, does anyone think the Beatles’ music got worse at the time they were worshipping the Maharishi
No. I kinda like the sound of the sitar in some of their songs.
I’m trying to think, what were some songs that featured the sitar?
• “Love You To” (Like)
• “Tomorrow Never Knows” (Don’t like)
• “Within You Without You” (Kinda like)
• “The Inner Light” (Like)
• “Across the Universe” (Love it!)

Never played the sitar. But speaking of a light touch I tried playing the harpsichord and almost destroyed it. Too bad, I really like it.
Love the sound but you can’t sustain the notes. even though we have one, piano that is, I never attempted to play it but my wife does. She’s teaching our oldest grandaughter to play.

Across the Universe has Sitar in it?
Yes.
(I see I forgot “Norwegian Wood” on the Beatles sitar songs list, but we have already commented on it elsewhere by now.)
