This seems to be the new approach of the theocrats. They believe that freedom of religion and right to practice religion means the freedom and right to discriminate on religious grounds.

Yeah, well some people, especially libertarians, think that a free society is one where everyone has the right to discriminate as they see fit. So everybody can do whatever they want with their own land and property, which means that a business owner could say No Jews, No Blacks, No Christians, No Beatles fans etc. and that would be fine. From this perspective anti-discrimination laws are anti-freedom.

The dominance of the modern Republican party, and in particular its dominance of the south, can be traced back to the Southern Strategy that postdated the civil rights legislation of the 1960s. And that, of course, can be traced back to the legacy of slavery and the civil war: anti-slavery laws are anti freedom, anti states’ rights.

Denying pre-natal healthcare to women; forcing them into undergoing unnecessary humiliating physical procedures, therby denying them the right to privacy; excluding them from jobs (even as they are qualified.

Rights pertain to enjoying certain individual rights, not the right to compell those rights on others, in spite of their freedoms. There is an anti-discrimination law, which was formed in recognition of and to prevent precisely such abuse of rights.

In spite of the shrill insistence that we are a Nation build on Christian values, we are a Secular Democracy where all enjoy equal rights. Oulawing contraceptive and then forbidding abortion is wholly incompatible with these principles of equal rights and freedom of choice.
