Welcome, Quest, great to have you here on the CFI Forum. I hope you’ll stick around!

¿Eres vasco?

No, no soy español. Soy checo.

And yes, our towns almost border each other, but since I am by the lake and closer to Oakville, I figured it would take me about 20 minutes to get to your town.

Hi George,

It might take you 20 minutes to get to my town, but it takes me 3 or 4 to get to yours  Kilbride is a neighborhood of Burlington one block east of my house.

I have not visited the Czech Republic because I ran out of time twice.  I visited Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, and Germany last July.  I wanted to, but never reached the Czech Republic.  I returned to Europe last December/January and visited 6 countries, but ran out of time again before making it to the Czech Republic.  I will have to plan it better next time.

¿Cuanto tiempo viviste en España?

Well, I guess I’m going to have to break out my ancient Spanish 1 text book if I have any hopes of keeping up with our bi-lingual forum.  smile

Occam

Occam,

I learned English, and Portuguese, and some French and Italian here in Canada.  I learned by taking chances and by focusing on my learning.  So, please don’t be shy and say something in Spanish.

The great diversity of cultures, ethnicities, and languages is what most attracted me to Canada.  You can travel the world by walking a city block in most of the Golden Horseshoe.

Damn, you’re good Quest! Very impressive. Yes it is. Just to illustrate that there are many languages on this side of the pond as well. Sorry I couldn’t write it in the syllabary though.

The word Tsalagi was a good give away.  Are you Cherokee, or did you learn the language for other reasons?

My great-grandmother was, and I hate to use the expression, a full blood. Dad’s one quarter. Even though I never knew her, my grandmother did and told me about her when I was young. We often visited Cherokee country (N.C.) and I learned about the language and culture there and from Eastern and Western Cherokees that I met while in college. Knew some Iroquois too, mainly Mohawks from akwesasne near Rooseveltown, N.Y. I was also involved in AIM back in the day as the kids say.

Few people know the contribution the Iroquoi nations made to the concept of “one man, one vote” in the Constitution.
