My favourite picture was one from some village in Russia of a dentist using a small bust of Lenin instead of a “dentist hammer” (I don’t remember the proper name of that tool now). Most of the photos were very sad indeed.

You have to be extremely desperate or stupid to submit to such treatment. This was a shocker for me. Hadn’t seen anything like it before.
They probably are stupid but that’s irrelevant. (No, India is not a threat to us.) What they are is indeed being desperate. Have you seen “Cast Away”? Remember Tom Hanks getting his sore tooth out with the ice skate blade? Desperate times call for desperate measures.
This is off topic here, but I suspect that it is India’s caste system that is responsible for some parts resembling cities in the West where people are educated and smart (with low fertility), and the the rest being stuck in the middle ages.
You know what I think will happen one day? The same think that happened in Russia in October of 1917, but this time it will happen all over the globe and it’ll be bloodier. Actually, judging by the current events in the Middle East, it has probably already started.
Problem is the Tea Party members have the guns. The Occupy movement is made of pacifists. The revolution will start when things get so bad the two groups unite against a common enemy, and that won’t happen until the Tea Partiers wake up and realize they are working against their own best interest.

Meh, I don’t see the Tea Partiers ever waking up to that. Not with Fox News alive and kicking.
The poor have many struggles, this is one of them, where to find good dentistry. I hope they can find cleaner dentistry, soon. The city isn’t all hygiene and harmony. Sometimes people take it down to the gutter, because that’s just where it all began.

I think this would only be likely to happen if we had a true return to the “Great Depression” or worse.
