The title says it all. I realize that it may be a bit late for people to see this notice and maybe drop by tonight, but we hope that it turns into a recurring, weekly gig. We’ve slated June Mondays for a test run.

Nighthawks is a jazz dectet, and we play modern jazz arrangements largely (but not uniquely) drawn from arrangers from within the band: primarily, saxophonist Joshua James, pianist Mike Zaporski, me, and our flautist/vocalist Tracy Kash Thomas, and of course we encourage others in the band to contribute as well.

Downbeat at 9:30 p.m.

Howe’s Bayou is at 22848 Woodward Ave., Ferndale, MI 48220

Sounds like fun! Wish I were nearby, though 9:30 is getting late for me ...  smile

Thanks. Honestly, I’d be surprised if anyone who is on here is close enough to check it out and able to hang that late. But, I figure it couldn’t hurt to put up the notice.

Man, I’d like to hear you guys. I play jazz drums and would love to sit in on a set. Do you play traditional or progressive? Would one of the geniuses on this site please invent a teleporter? It’s a ten hour drive for me.

That gig dried up, alas.

Damn! And I wanted to start a CFI quartet and play Brubeck. Joe Morello was my all time favorite drummer.

Brubeck’s quartet was great. We have several very, very good drummers around the Detroit area, and I’ve gotten to play with some of them, a few with Nighthawks. The guy who runs that band got sidelined with pursuing a Master’s Degree, and I got sidelined with a job working 70-80 hours/week, and he got the degree and I lost the job (very recently), but I’m not sure how things are shaking out right now.
