Here’s a hail mary.

I have next week off work (happy bday to me, woo!), which is to say 30 June-9 July, 2012. I have time and a little bit of travel budget: Anyone know of any must-see (skeptical/atheist/smartypantsses) events going on? Maybe even within a couple hundred miles of Detroit? (Haven’t had a good road trip in a while.)

Usually I’ve made plans for that week, but this year, I just kinda didn’t get around to it. I know TAM is the week after, but I don’t think I’ll be heading out for that. (Saving the big ticket for CSICon in Nashville in October.)

I don’t know of anything, Dorion, but you might check the listings for the various locales, at the end of this forum. They may have some events close to you listed.

Funny thing is, I have a ridiculously robust calendar, and nothing old is showing up!

I know what not to do during that week. I once went to Disney in Florida during the July 4th week and I almost died. 

Yes, Orlando in summer is insane.  Only once, and never again.  The only place where the relative humidity appeared to be above 100%.

Yeah, it was hot. On top of that, the July 4th week is supposedly their busiest time. Just my luck.

Thats an interesting thing—and on my birthday! I’m not the outdoor festival sort though.

You could head out to Phoenix.  My friends there say the haboob is freaking sweet looking.  Even if it does pack sand in everything.

First, it was 100F+ in Detroit all last week. So going anywhere was a bit of a challenge, especially if it involved actually getting out of the car.
Second, I got a late registration for TAM, which is coming up this weekend, so my priorities turned to budgeting time, money, and energy for that.

Sat. @ Briggs Farm we had a severe lighting storm for about an hour.  Damn wind knocked my buddies and my campsite pretty hard.

It was nothing special just passed my days in idle mode while coding for a desktop game !!!
