I am a fan of the Boston Globe’s regular photo feature, The Big Picture. I think today’s photos will be of interest to y’all.

The Olympus BioScapes Digital Imaging Competition winners are currently on display at the New York Hall of Science. This competition, in its ninth year, is a dynamic international photo competition which honors the world’s most extraordinary microscope images and videos of biological subjects. The Olympus BioScapes exhibit will be on display through August 31st.

Very nice photographs. I wish I knew more about the techniques

Yen, very cool. I have a couple of books of these at home, they take great skill to pull off.

Amazing! Life within life. We’re these pics color enhanced or natural?

Really cool pics. I dont think these are color enhanced, at least not in the sense that anyone altered them after they were taken. The colors are the result of the illumination technique used.. Dark field, flouresence, phase contrast etc. One could argue its not natural lighting but at these magnifications the term natural lighting loses its meaning

Awesome pics FIK.
But while looking through them, I kept imagining a creationist claiming that they were just paintings.

Wow Very fascinating.  Thanks for sharing.  I always enjoy seeing such pictures, but never have much to say afterwards, except “wow”.

Exactly! Same way I feel looking at deep space photography.
