Actually, fire walking need not be dangerous. They did an episode of Mythbusters on it awhile back, and I think Skeptical Inquirer has had articles as well. If the coals are allowed to grey over, the feet are slightly damp with sweat or dew, and one walks quickly, one can do it without injury. But if the fire isn’t prepared correctly ...
The problem here is that this Robbins has convinced his followers that their state of mind can actually protect them from the heat. After all that is his claim to fame, that the mind is such a powerful thing it can overcome natural forces or something to that effect. After this event one woman who was not injured was quoted with great glee exclaiming that it “was amazing what the mind can do” when in fact she was merely lucky. Most likely some of the factors Doug mentioned were different enough in her case that she was fortunate not to get burned.

I’d like to see his mind stop my fist! (Well, I wouldn’t actually hit him… OMG, it worked without him even thinking about it! )
