Which is the restoration and which is the original? You just never know with the myriad styles of art.
Anyways, I’m laughing too. Because it’s a depiction of christ she screwed up.
Now this one is just sad. Sad because a demented old lady actually tried to restore a priceless art object and sad that it appears to be ruined. I hate to see any damage done to art, from the deranged geologist who took a hammer to the Pieta to this painting, regardless of the subject. We have enough of this done intentionally let alone by well meaning amateurs. It’s the destruction of history.

My understanding is that it wasn’t priceless; it was a minor 19th century fresco. If that’s right, it’s no big deal.
Yes, Jack, it is very sad, for both reasons you mention, and I feel guilty for finding it funny. Nevertheless, I can’t help finding it funny. I meet people all the time who think themselves to be artists and I have to keep constantly complimenting them. But this one is as bad as it gets and on top of it I don’t even know the woman. And so I get a bit loose. May Zeus, and those of you who are morally above me, forgive me.

Yeah, my grandaughter could have done a better job and she’s just six, but it does seem a pity that even a minor piece of art is forever wiped out. Kind of like wadding up a letter from that time period. There might have been something to learn from the fresco and now we’ll never know! And BTW George, with your no holds barred directness why would you ever feel yourself committed to complimenting someone who is a crappy artist? And I think it’s Athena you should placate. How about sacrificing a goat? She likes goats.
Well, at least it was in a much more devastated state as suggested by the pictures above:
In a Swiss newspaper the woman says the critique is not fair: in the first place she was allowed by the priest, and in the second place, she was not ready yet...
