A physicist’s verdict on the existence of God. In a word … well, no.

On September 10, 2008, the Center for Inquiry – Michigan at Grand Rapids presented a lecture by physicist and author Victor Stenger, ”God: The Failed Hypothesis.”

Historically, arguments for and against God’s existence have been the domain of philosophers and theologians. Often it was assumed that science had nothing to contribute – or that it had better things to do. Yet science has revolutionized human life and our understanding of the world. Does it make sense, then, that science should have nothing to say about what believers regard as the most urgent question of all?

Stenger contends that, if God exists, some evidence for this existence should be detectable by scientific means, especially considering the central role that God is alleged to play in the operation of the universe and the lives of humans.

Victor Stenger is adjunct professor of philosophy at the University of Colorado and professor emeritus of physics and astronomy at the University of Hawaii. His books include Has Science Found God?, The Comprehensible Cosmos, and Not by Design.

You dont need to see science to believe but then it is always a source of debate and it will just go on and on.

Absence of evidence is actually evidence of absence.  Just as the absence of elephant excrement in Jasper National Park in Canada can be taken as evidence for the absence of elephants in that park, along with the absence of any photographs of elephants in that venue.  Similarly, absence of photographs of God and absence of God’s Infinite Excrement (GIEs for short) within the observable universe is, in fact, evidence for the non-existence of God.  Absence of evidence especially absent plausible explanations for the absence of expected evidence, can be pretty compelling.  Hence belief in Sasquatch is generally considered mistaken based purely on absence of expected evidence—ie, photos, corpses, excrement.

On the “Simple” God idea, the Cognitive Dissonance podcast has a hilarious skit where “Hillbilly God” is creating hurricanes and earthquakes thinking that that’s what “his people” want.
