THIS IS URGENT.

Trans-Pacific Partnership Round 14

This trade agreement is being negotiated in near secrecy with corporate representatives, government officials and Democrats and Republicans of the US Congress who want to put this agreement on fast track. Unless we shed light on this agreement, we may wake up one morning with no USA sovereignty and US taxes subsidizing manufacture and business over seas, and popular regulations to protect consumers and labor subject to penalties and regulation by international corporations.

It’s not really free trade. It’s very restrictive.

What is the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP)?

The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is a secretive, multi-national trade agreement that threatens to extend restrictive intellectual property (IP) laws across the globe and rewrite international rules on its enforcement. What is the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP)?

Allow corporations to sue nations if laws such as those protecting the environment or labor conditions interfere with corporate profits.
Create aprivate corporate tribunal to hear these cases in which the judges are largely corporate lawyers.
Extend the patent period for pharmaceuticals which will keep prices high and medications out of the hands of those who need them.
End “Buy America” provisions which will lead to greater job outsourcing.
  Furtherde-regulate Big Finance.
Undermine internet freedom of speech, right to privacy and due process, and hinder peoples’ abilities to innovate.

Why is free trade bad?

Because it’s not by any means free. From what I understand, the US has pretty much given away the store as far as tariffs, regulations, etc. (and done so under several administrations, so it’s not a Dem vs Rep thing).  Also other governments heavily subsidize their industries (orders of magnitude more than the US welfare for oil companies). So US companies are at a severe disadvantage.
