Well, those are pretty weird, but we had a fair number of other ones when I was an undergraduate.  Wish I could remember them.  The only one I do goes along with the dumb joke: How do you make ethyl lactate?  The ubergeek that thought this up and presented it in the lab, gave an answer that demonstrated just how far out of touch some chemists are with reality.  His answer:  Kiss her.

I wonder if the Chemists had consumed any of the chemicals before they started thinking up silly names.

And it’s not just chemists.  Biologists are notorious for their ideosyncratic gene and protein naming.  There’s sonic hedge, Pikachurin, and more.
