Caught a two hour program last night about and staring Pete Seeger and his use of folk music to get people involved in acting upon various societies problems.  His basic premise was that music brings people together and together they can accomplish many things.  Also made me think about my Baptist background as a kid.  Religion can be much more than belief in the supernatural and the Baptists do know how to make and use music for many ends.

If you get a chance, particularly those who are of the post WWII generation the program is definitely worth watching.

I’ve been a fan of Pete’s since the early 60’s. “If I had a Hammer” was one of my favorites. Even though HUAC had him banned he still managed to get his message across with that long necked Vega banjo! And he’s still going strong well into his 90’s. His union songs are still being sung at rallies today.

Well yea, isn’t one of the greatest draws of religion that sense of special community…
music always adds juice to that,
but so do the Sunday picnics and all that,
and the being part of a special group and helping each other out were we can because of that one fact.
and so on and so forth. . .
