Frank is one of the best at playing to the middle ground. On his blog he gets more religious than he does on this interview. Here he admits his own shortcomings and the compares his pull toward religion to being an alcoholic. He builds to a crescendo at the end, calling out all evangelicals and saying their theology is exactly the same as Westboro Baptist, they just cover it over with window dressing.
Just before that, he tells of sitting with his dying father and having their friend, Billy Graham, come by. He, Billy, openly talked of his doubts about an after life. Josh (the interviewer) steps in and says, wouldn’t it be great if Graham had done that publicly?
Yes, that would be great.
