Ep 5 was another good one on the history of science. I had never heard of Mo Tze or the book burnings of the Chin dynasty, although I’ve read many who throw their hands up and say it is un-explainable why science did not flourish in China. Not that a 5 minute cartoon segment can explain history, but the point was made that you need not just people asking why, but the society that allows for it and hopefully encourages it. Tyson has spoke before of Al-Ghalazi, the Islamic teacher who preached against reason and helped to bring down the golden age of science in that culture. Maybe he’s saving that for a later show.
