Cassini: a case of technocratic recklessness
Those pics make you forget that the Cassini mission could easily have spelled disaster for humankind if its plutonium drive would have exploded during takeoff and dispersed worldwide. Wasn’t it the very next launch of the same type of carrier rocket that went bust?
And there was no urgency in launching that mission. It could have waited a couple of decades until a safer transport was available. But no. Science adminstrators and technocrats decided over the heads of humanity that their curiosity was more important.
