Have you ever wondered why it’s OK to make jokes about Catholics, the Pope, Jews, Christians, the Irish, the Italians, the Polish, the Chinese, the French (including French Canadians), the elderly, bad golfers, men/women, blacks/whites, etc, but its insensitive to make jokes about Muslims?

Time to level the playing field and be politically correct by including the Muslims!

Jeff Foxworthy on Muslims:

1.    If you grow and refine heroin for a living, but you have a moral objection to liquor, You may be a Muslim.

2.    If you own a $3,000 machine gun and a $5,000 rocket launcher, but you can’t afford shoes, You may be a Muslim.

3.    If you have more wives than teeth, You may be a Muslim.

4.    If you wipe your butt with your bare hand but consider bacon to be unclean, You may be a Muslim.

5.    If you think vests come in two styles:  Bullet-proof and suicide. You may be a Muslim

6.    If you can’t think of anyone you haven’t declared jihad against, You may be a Muslim.

7.    If you consider television dangerous but routinely carry explosives in your clothing, You may be a Muslim.

8.    If you were amazed to discover that cell phones have uses other than setting off roadside bombs, You may be a Muslim.

9.    If you have nothing against women and think every man should own at least four, You may be a Muslim.

If you find this offensive and don’t forward it, you are part of the problem in America!

If you delete this you are, most likely a Muslim.

The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.

Love it. It’s time for Muslim equality!

It’s a shallow victory. However, I wish people who make these up would take credit.

Perhaps they would be embarrassed to take credit, for some reason.

As a fabrication of our own consciousness, our assignations of meaning are no less “real”, but since humans and the fabrications of our consciousness are routinely fraught with error, it makes sense, to me, to, sometimes, question such fabrications.

Or afraid?

Or perhaps they didn’t like Jeff Foxworthy and were hoping that Muslim extremists would assassinate him.

Political humor just doesn’t seem to equate well with Jeff’s “redneck” jokes. Besides, the humor is self-deprecating as the article mentions and Americans in general and Southerners in particular get the punch lines. Actually, I find his jokes on the Southern accent even funnier, e.g. Jeetyet? (Did you eat yet?), and ware a-go in’ ta Monunems (we are going to Mom and relatives homes). I guess you could substitute “Jihad” for “jeeeha”, nah, just doesn’t have the same meaning.

The Internet is full of jokes, etc. that are fictitiously attributed to some well known person. I guess the originator thinks it will get more attention that way. It’s probably best to be skeptical of anything attributed to a well-known person. Anyway, I thought the jokes were quite funny. PI makes any joke funnier.

I do have a definitive statement by George Carlin on the subject.  (warning crude language)

Point noted that there is a difference between self-deprecating humor and other-deprecating humor.

Ah!  One of my favorite kinds of humor. i.e., religion-deprecating humor.

I never offer try to offer this kind of humor gratuitously and just for insult. Here, I do think it is appropriate in context of the discussion.

But, as atheist, I agree 100% with the observation.

My problem is that with most of his jokes, I would be putting my hand up, but I was never a redneck in the original meaning of the term.  Jeff Foxworthy has changed the meaning of the term to suit his own agenda.
