Um… Guys, there’s some things about Christianity that are not historical though.  As Robert Price says, if there ever was a historical Jesus, which is doubtful since he is not found else where in history, he is so buried in mythology that you can find what was really true of the man, unlike Ceasar Augustus.  We know for sure there was a Ceasar Augustus at one time, but not a historical Jesus.

I was recently part of a discussion on a language/grammar forum about how entrenched religious language is in our expressions of intense, sudden feelings (Goddammit, Jesus Christ, oh my God, etc).

As there are many expressions we use from Don Quijote (e.g. “Sky is the limit”, etc.). Should we also make that into a separate subject?

I understand your point, but I can’t imagine you seriously think the cultural and linguistic/artistic impact of Don Quixote on Western culture is comparable to that of Christianity? I don’t think anyone is suggesting we treat Christianity as truth or exalt it, but to pretend that it hasn’t had a sufficient impact on our culture and history to merit study is a hard case to support, IMHO.
