I just recently became a friend of the center and a member of the CFI forums. I live in Muncie, and I would like to become involved with center in Indiana.
Hello,
I volunteer with the CFI-Indiana and our members rarely seem
to participate in this forum, as you can see from it’s history.
I just happened to stop by today.
If you’d like to get more involved, that is wonderful!
We’re always looking for participants. And it is true that our
events are concentrated near Indianapolis, our organizational
model is: the volunteers who host events decide where to have
them, and most of the volunteers live near Indianapolis. It is
an issue for the CFI-Indiana, named especially to express our
coordinator’s intent to be a state-wide organization.
So a great contribution that you could make is to
start a student group at Ivy Tech and try to attract
some people who are more local to you and college aged.
Try Campus Freethought Alliance
for some resources on how to go about doing
that. Also you should write an email to our coordinator
.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), expressing your
interests.
If that isn’t what you had in mind then there is another
discussion in Kokomo, but the last time that I heard of them
meeting was in April. I don’t know if that is closer to you,
but they are a good group of people that I thought was worth
mentioning just in case you have a Kokomo connection.
I’m sorry that I can’t give you an offer in your locale, but
if you helped to start your own group, then the next person
wouldn’t have that obstacle.
Outside of the CFI, many of our members have attended various
Unitarian churches, I have no personal experience with them,
but I’m told that many Humanists will attend those churches.
Good luck, and do try to make further contact with us!
