Actually that was a major reason why I quit watching Enterprise.  I didn’t want to watch a sci-fied 9/11.  That plus the fact that I am generally somewhat turned off by time travel stories.

I know exactly what you mean.  That’s why I never got into the new “Battlestar Galactica”.  And my major gripe with “Enterprise” is that it over-uses time travel.  It seems like they can’t go five episodes without tripping over a time traveller.  :(

I’m so sick and tired of these Vulcans who claim that time travel is impossible.  LOL  LOL LOL

Good one Occam.  LOL

Only into the past actually.  If you set up a time warp bubble properly you can got into the future at faster than normal speed but you can’t come back.  Haha

I recently discovered Stage 6.

They have got Outer Limits, some TNG, DS9.  I haven’t seen any Babylon 5.

I didn’t know about this at all.  It is more down to Earth than B5.

I was watching a download of a DS9 episode the other day and noticed another similarity between DS9 and B5.

In a triple episode at the beginning of the second season Quark got branded on forehead by some Bajoran extremists.  The exact same thing happened to a Minbari poet by Earth extremists.  Watching these reruns makes me think maybe B5 isn’t as much better than DS9 as I thought.  But DS9 is even further ahead of Next Generation.

When I started reading this thread a while back I felt I couldn’t really comment because I had never really watched B5. When it was on, I was really turned off by the Centuari and the whole nowness feel of the show.

I have watched the new BSG religiously, and I was a huge fan of DS9 (I think it was the best series in the Trek line).

That said, I watched every movie and every episode of B5. I have to say, B5 is perhaps the best Sci-fi in the whole space drama to ever air. It is so clear now where and why DS9 was so different than the rest of Star Trek. The very elements that made DS9 rewarding and interesting came from B5.

But B5 was better than that even. The central idea, that B5 would be like a book, is what really set the series apart. As you watch B5 you get that whole rise and fall effect of reading a book. The more you watch, the more the story engages you, the more you smile as things fall into place, the more rewarding it is to it’s followers.

The greatest problem with B5 was it’s low budget and poor special effects. But damn, what a great idea, what a great show.

But there are other great shows out there too, the 4400 (canceled), Eureka and Jericho are great and I love them all for different reasons.

I never watched Enterprise because it let me down. The cast was awesome, and I enjoyed the first few episodes, but it quickly fell apart, it not being Trek enough. But I think I will re-visit the entire series and then judge it.

I am not sure if this is sacrilege, but I think the whole Andromeda show would have been a great Trek if it was a bit darker, and had all the Trek elements in line. It has a great story line. Sometimes I almost consider it to be a Trek.

Andromeda got a little too mystical for my taste.

What have you heard and what do you think about the new Star Trek movie?

I read through the casting list on the wikipedia page and I think they have done an excellent job of finding quality young actors with remarkable likenesses to the original crew.  I am intrigued by JJ Abrams (Lost & Cloverfield) take on the franchise.  I wouldn’t consider myself a Trekkie, but I am definitely a fan.  I understand that there may be some controversy over the canon.  The plot looks like it will focus on Spock’s character and I am optimistic of this spotlight.

I just looked it up. Wow! The young Spock, Zachary Quinto, looks almost identical to young Nimoy…

He’s got smaller ears.  LOL

I presume the make up department can fix that though.  LOL

Taller than Nimoy too.

I understand the ears continue growing as we age, but I don’t know how much.  So maybe, he does look like the younger Nimoy.

Compare for yourself:

Perhaps the adhesive they used in the 60’s for the ear prostheses made his ears longer.

Uh oh, I didn’t meant to hotlink. I just put in the URL.

Is this an issue on this board? If so, I’ll change it.

No problem, A_P.  The administrator does it all the time.  I don’t because I’ve never bothered figuring out how to do it.  My feeling is if someone is interested enough they can google it and track it down themself.  LOL

Another DS9-B5 similarity.

Star Fleet has a secret organization called Section 31

The Earth government in B5 has a secret organization called Bureau 13

Now that is odd.  If Paramount was even trying to pretend they weren’t stealing from B5 why just transpose the numbers?

Are you sure it wasn’t the other way around?  Be that as it may, Majel made an appearance on B5 so show the fans there was no hard feelings between anyone concerning the two shows.  I forgot where I found the pic, but Majel is pictured as some ambassador or something on B5. I forgot the character’s name though.  :(
